PHILIPS Hue Go - Take the magic of Hue with you!

Philips Hue Go – Functionality

The Hue Go is a little multi-coloured LED lamp, with an internal rechargeable battery that lasts for around 3 hours. The Go connects to the Philips Hue bridge allowing you to control the colour and brightness levels for your phone. As the Hue Go connects to the Hue bridge, it can be added to existing Hue “recipes” and can be triggered by the Hue Motion Sensor. If you haven't already invested in getting the Hue ecosystem, the Philips Hue Go can also be used as a standalone light and by pressing a small button at the base of the light you can switch between the seven preset scenes; warm white light, cool energising daylight, Sunday coffee, cozy candle, meditation, enchanted forest and night adventure. The Philips Hue Go is completely wireless for control and only requires 1.5 hours for a full charge.

Philips Hue Go Review – Appearance

The Hue Go is a small bowl shaped light made of a white translucent plastic. There is a little button in the base that gives you control without the Hue app or ecosystem. There is also a small well-placed bump on the bottom that allows you to position the light flat or to angle the Hue Go and have its light cast on and wall.  There is a hole to one side where the charging cable connects. The hole is quite long and can make plugging in the charging cable quite fiddly.

Additional Features

As with all Philips Hue products the updates to both software and firmware are done wirelessly and seamlessly directly to the Hue product. The Hue Go also allows you to extend your AmbiLight TV experience to the whole room. The Hue ecosystem, as well as the Hue Go, can all be connected to third party apps and products that can expand the capability of the system, for example, Philips Hue connects to IFTTT.

Conclusion

The Hue Go is a nice little addition to a smart home. The portability of the light allows for greater creativity on how to use light within the smart home. The main issue with the Hue Go is that it's not waterproof, which ifit was would make the product fantastic. The charging cable is also fiddly, but this is a small issue as the product is great. The Philips Hue Go is excellent light whether it is part of a smart home or not.
